Yolanda Adams and Dorinda Clark-Cole are among several great women who participated in the unveiling of the Sojourner Truth memorial today in the U.S. Capitol building (Washington, DC). They performed “Nothin’ But The Truth,” a musical tribute song to commemorate the event.
Having Sojourner Truth represented in the Capitol was a long-time dream of the National Council of Negro Women’s co-founder and first president, the late C. Delores Tucker. Her decades-long efforts were fulfilled under the leadership of Dr. E. Faye Williams, Esquire, National Chair of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. The bust was unveiled today, on April 28, 2009 in Emancipation Hall in the Capitol Visitor Center, where it will be on permanent display as approved by the Joint Committee on the Library.
Also on the program was Bishop Vashti McKenzie who opened the ceremony events in prayer. Read the prayer that Bishop McKenzie said during the event!
